Las Vegas Events cancels SCORE Las Vegas Cup IV

Las Vegas Events announced Monday that the SCORE Las Vegas Cup IV, scheduled for July 18-19 at the dirt track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, has been canceled.

“The SCORE Las Vegas Cup has been an important summer event for Las Vegas Events,” Pat Christenson, president of Las Vegas Events, said in a prepared statement. “Unfortunately, we could not deliver a race experience this year that SCORE fans have become accustomed to and expect. In the future, we will continue to support SCORE desert racing.”

It is believed the sanctioning body had trouble attracting entries to the event for a number of reasons, including the fact that SCORE made the race a non-points event earlier this year. The slumping economy and rising gasoline prices also were contributing factors in the race’s demise.

The short-course, stadium-style event was scheduled to be the fourth of six races on the 2008 SCORE Desert Series. A spokesman for SCORE said the race would not be replaced on this year’s schedule.

Las Vegas Events will give full refunds to fans that have purchased tickets for the event. Fans can call 866-388-FANS for more information.

The next race on SCORE Desert Series schedule will be the 13th Annual SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 desert race, Sept. 5-6 in Primm.
