Gorman grad Murray to miss BCS title game

Oklahoma running back and Bishop Gorman High graduate DeMarco Murray will miss the BCS national championship game against Florida in Miami on Jan. 8.

Murray sustained a partial rupture of his left hamstring tendon on the opening kickoff of the Big 12 Conference championship game on Dec. 6.

The Sooners’ second-leading rusher, Murray will undergo surgery Dec. 22. He should be able to work out again in five months, according to the school.

Murray ran 179 times this season for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns. He caught 31 passes for 395 yards and four TDs.

"Obviously we're very disappointed for DeMarco," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops told reporters. "He has been an important part of our success this year and we will miss his contributions. DeMarco has had an incredible year. "

"With Chris Brown and Mossis Madu, we still have two very fine backs. Our team has a lot of confidence in their abilities."

Oklahoma (12-1) and Florida (12-1) play for the title in Dolphin Stadium.
