UNLV softball draws at-large NCAA tourney bid

For the ninth time in program history and the first time since 2005, the UNLV softball team is heading for the postseason. The Rebels learned on Sunday night that they were given an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

UNLV (31-19) will take on Fresno State at UCLA's Easton Stadium on Friday at 1 p.m. to kick off the regional action.

Rounding out the field in the regional hosted by UCLA -- the No. 2 overall seed in the tournament -- are the Bruins and Long Beach State.

The winners of Friday's games will face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday back at Easton Stadium, with the losers doing battle afterwards. The final game on Saturday will pit the two losers from earlier in the day against each other in an elimination game.

On Sunday, Saturday's winners will take the field, with another game to follow if necessary. Only one team advances from the regional to a best-of-three Super Regional. UNLV hasn't been to the Women's College World Series since 1995.

UNLV has already faced two of its three potential opponents this weekend earlier in the season. Those contests included a 9-7 loss to UCLA and a 4-2 victory over LBSU.
