UNLV 2009 football schedule finalized; season ticket prices stay

UNLV-UNR

Fans cheer as the Rebels take the field for their game against UNR at Sam Boyd Stadium in September 2008.

UNLV officially finalized its 2009 football schedule on Thursday, and Rebels fans will be pleased in two ways: The prices and the opponents.

“We’re sensitive to the extraordinary demands that this economy has put on our community and we’re pleased that we can offer such an impressive schedule of games without raising prices in 2009,” UNLV athletics director Mike Hamrick said.

UNLV's 2009 home schedule, which kicks off with the Sept. 5 opener against FCS foe Sacramento State, includes 7 games. Five of those opponents played in bowl games a year ago.

The 7 p.m. showdown with Sacramento State is followed immediately by two more tilts at Sam Boyd Stadium. First, the Rebels will meet Oregon State on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. in a game that will be televised by CBS College Sports. The Beavers capped their 2008 season with a 3-0 victory over Pittsburgh in the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.

A week later, UNLV hosts Hawai'i in a 6 p.m. contest, carried by The Mtn., before beginning Mountain West Conference play.

The Rebels will travel to face Wyoming in Laramie on Sept. 26, followed by the non-con finale at UNR on Oct. 3.

UNLV's most impressive home stretch begins the next week, as BYU comes to town on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., followed by another 7 p.m. kickoff against defending Mountain West and Sugar Bowl champion Utah.

The Rebels then play four more consecutive weeks, traveling to face New Mexico (Oct. 24) and TCU (Oct. 31) back-to-back, then taking on Colorado State on Nov. 7 at Sam Boyd. Mike Sanford's club heads into the bye week off of another road contest, played on Nov. 14 at Air Force.

Following a bye on Nov. 21, the Rebels wrap up their schedule for the second season in a row with San Diego State, this time at home.

"I love the fact that we open up at home and we have three here to start the season," Sanford said. "Seven home games is a real plus but it’s a really tough schedule. Obviously our conference has more good teams than ever and we are playing quality teams out of conference as well.”

The Rebels went 5-7 a year ago.

They are in the middle of spring camp right now, which wraps up with the annual Spring Game at Sam Boyd Stadium on Friday, April 17.
