Rebels lose Miller, but get commitments from Kilgore and Barrett

Lose one, gain two.

That's the way it went down over the past 24 hours for the UNLV football coaching staff, which came out all right in the end, grabbing commitments on Wednesday afternoon from California prep prospects Thomas Kilgore and Jordan Barrett.

Those two verbals came a day after Horace Miller, a linebacker from Dunbar High in Baltimore backed out of his commitment to the Rebels and gave his pledge to Louisville.

Kilgore, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman from San Joaquin Memorial High in Fresno, visited UNLV last weekend. He also had offers on the table from San Diego State, Bowling Green and UNR.

Barrett is a 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker from Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He had previously been offered by Washington and Notre Dame.

The Rebels' '09 class now includes 20 names, with signing day -- Feb. 4 -- a week away.

UNLV head coach Mike Sanford will host a signing day party as they announce the class next Wednesday. It's a free event for all Rebels fans which will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Board Room at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Refreshments will be served, and a highlight video will be shown after Sanford discuss his fifth recruiting class at UNLV.

The party is open to the public, but RSVP by calling 702-895-3400.
