Willis named MWC co-Player of the Week

The Rebel Room

UTAH POSTGAME: Call 'em the comeback kids ... again

Ryan Greene and Rob Miech talk about UNLV's second consecutive come-from-behind victory, as this time the Rebels took out Utah, 75-65, at the Thomas & Mack Center. The guys discuss UNLV's small-ball strategy which ultimately conquered Luke Nevill, the performances of Mo Rutledge, Tre'Von Willis and Wink Adams, plus where the Rebels go from here with a week off before facing Air Force.

Tre'Von Willis played his best game to date as a Rebel in Saturday's 75-65 home victory over Utah, and the effort certainly didn't go unnoticed.

Willis on Monday was named the Mountain West Conference's co-Player of the Week, sharing the honors with Wyoming's Tyson Johnson.

The sophomore Memphis transfer scored a career-high 22 points, and had 6 assists as opposed to just 1 turnover. He also recorded 3 steals.

UNLV needed come-from-behind efforts to defeat both BYU and Utah over the course of the week, and in both contests, Willis was the one who offensively kept his team afloat in the first half. In Provo, Willis scored 13 points.

He's truly coming into his own as a multi-dimensional threat out of the UNLV backcourt. Aside from being the team's third-leading scorer, Willis has 14 assists to just 2 turnovers in his last three games.

Johnson averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as Wyoming went 1-1 last week, falling to TCU in overtime, 79-78, and knocking off Colorado State, 83-74.
