Former Rebels assistant Linehan hired as Lions’ offensive coordinator

Scott Linehan, who was a UNLV football assistant coach in 1991, added another stop to his NFL resumé on Friday, as he was hired to be the new offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.

Linehan was fired by the St. Louis Rams following an 0-4 start to the 2008 season. He was in his third season as the Rams' head coach following stints as an offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings.

His collegiate coaching career consisted of posts at Louisville, Washington, Idaho and UNLV over a 13-year period.

He joins a staff which includes Jim Schwartz, who was hired as the Lions' new head coach last week.

The Lions this season became the first team since the AFL-NFL merger to go 0-16.
