Rebels get commitment from WR Stolden; Losing commitment from Sullivan?

Over the weekend, Mike Sanford and his UNLV staff landed yet another commitment for the 2009 class, receiving a pledge from Irshad Stolden, a 5-foot-10 speedster of a wideout from Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High.

Stolden had 47 catches for 902 yards and 7 scores for the Cougars as a senior, after recording 36 grabs for 547 yards and 5 touchdowns as a junior.

Stolden is UNLV's 17th commitment in the class, joining fellow receivers Brandon Babineaux and Mark Barefield.

Signing day is Feb. 4.

However, one of those 17 could potentially fall off of the UNLV map in the coming days.

Cheyenne High defensive back/running back Marcus Sullivan, who helped lead the Desert Shields to the Sunset Regional semifinals, has re-opened his recruitment and is now expected to decide between UNLV and Utah State.

Sullivan rushed for 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior, while catching 18 passes for 431 yards and 7 more TDs. In a 37-36 loss to Bishop Gorman, he threw for 99 yards and 2 TDs on top of his 167-yard rushing performance.

Sullivan told the Deseret News earlier this week that he is torn between the two schools.

New USU coach Gary Andersen made a trip to Las Vegas this week, and is believed to have met with Sullivan today in an attempt to pry his commitment away.
