Ex-Rebels boss Bayno out at Loyola Marymount

Former UNLV coach Bill Bayno has resigned as Loyola Marymount men's basketball coach, according to the Los Angeles Times. The school is expected to make an announcement later today.

Bayno, who was in his first season as the Lions' head coach, took a leave of absence recently and the team was being guided by former top assistant Max Good.

Bayno had been on medical leave since November after being "diagnosed with a serious medical condition, in part, related to the stress and anxiety of head coaching," according to an official press release.

Friends of Bayno told The Times earlier this season that depression, not a recurrence of past problems with alcohol, forced the leave of absence.

Loyola Marymount is 1-16 after a 59-57 loss to Pepperdine on Saturday.

Good is expected to receive a multi-year contract to permanently replace Bayno.
