UNLV running backs coach Pope leaving for Iowa State

The UNLV football coaching staff absorbed its first loss of the 2008 offseason on Tuesday, as running backs coach Kenith Pope accepted a position on the staff at Iowa State.

The Cyclones -- who UNLV defeated in overtime, 34-31, on Sept. 20 -- recently named Paul Rhoads as their new head coach following Gene Chizik's departure to Auburn.

Pope coached one season at UNLV after spending five years as the assistant head coach at Texas A&M.

He recruited the Houston and Los Angeles areas for the Rebels, as UNLV is making a more concerted effort to land talent from Texas.
