Former UNLV striker Danny Cruz made the Under-20 national team roster for the CONCACAF U-20 championship next month in Trinidad & Tobago.
The squad was announced this morning.
After two seasons as a Rebel, Cruz bolted for the Major League Soccer draft last month and was picked by two-time champion Houston in the third round.
“I’m fortunate to be one of the 20 players going to Trinidad and Tobago,” said Cruz, a native of the Phoenix area. “I’m honored and proud to be part of something so special.”
The CONCACAF tournament, which takes place March 6-15, includes national teams from North and Central America, and the Caribbean.
The U.S. opens against Jamaica in Bacolet, Tobago, on March 6. It faces the victor of Hondruas-St. Vincent & the Grenadines on March 8. It finished Group A action March 10.
Four squads will advance from the tournament to the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be staged in Egypt from Sept. 25-Oct. 17.
