20 UNLV football players earn Academic All-MWC honors

A program record 20 UNLV football players were honord as 2008 Academic All-Mountain West Conference performers in the classroom on Monday.

The only two programs to claim more this season were BYU and Utah, as the total breaks the previous UNLV record of 16.

Three senior Rebels -- seniors DL Jacob Hales, WR Casey Flair and TE Ryan Worthen -- became four-time honorees, while three others -- WR Rodelin Anthony, OL Mario Jeberaeel and WR Ryan Wolfe made their third consecutive appearances on the list.

The rest of the Rebels to be named all-league academic performers included: QB Omar Clayton, OL Evan Marchal, OL Matt Murphy, DB Ryan Tillman, RB C.J. Cox, OL Mike Donato, PK Ben Jaekle, LS Kamu Kapanui, DB Terrance Lee, DB Beau Orth, WR Phillip Payne, DB Deante Purvis, DL Martin Tevaseu and LB Rusty Worthen.

To earn a selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the school while maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. They also must be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
