Record crowd watches both Rebels’ soccer teams win

Before a record crowd of 1,220, UNLV’s soccer teams excelled at Peter Johann Memorial Field on Friday night.

The Rebels women’s team defeated Wyoming, 3-1, on goals by Ashleigh Shoughro, Shannon Hughes and Brianna Moore, to improve to 10-5-1 and 2-2 in the Mountain West Conference.

Coach Kat Mertz’s squad plays host to Air Force on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Rebels men’s team capped the twin bill by scoring twice within 52 seconds in the second half to beat New Mexico, 2-1.

Stephen Sifuentes scored first and Daniel Cruz followed less than a minute later with his third game winner this season.

The Rebels (8-4-1) tied New Mexico (6-4-2) for second place, at 3-2, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. UNLV next plays New Mexico in Albuquerque on Oct. 31.
