UNLV picked first in MWC preseason poll

Receiving 16 of a possible 24 first-place votes, two-time Mountain West Conference Tournament champion UNLV was selected Tuesday as the preseason favorite to take the MWC crown.

The Rebels received 206 total points in the poll, and were followed by BYU in second, who took five first-place votes. The other three nods for the top spot went to San Diego State, who is picked third.

That wasn't the only good news early Tuesday for the UNLV program. Rebel senior Wink Adams was tapped along with BYU guard Lee Cummard as the league's preseason co-Player of the Year.

Both were also on the preseason All-MWC team along with San Diego State senior forward Lorrenzo Wade, Utah senior center Luke Nevill and Wyoming senior guard Brandon Ewing.

Topping off the honors early Tuesday for UNLV was sophomore point guard Tre'Von Willis, named as the league's preseason Newcomer of the Year following his transfer from Memphis. New Mexico's Phillip McDonald took home preseason Freshman of the Year honors.
