Pair of UNLV golfers named midseason All-Americans

UNLV golfers Therese Koelbaek and Eddie Olson this week were named to the Golf World midseason All-American teams.

Olson was one of 12 named to the men's squad after leading the Rebels in the fall season with a 69.67 scoring average. The junior finished in the top five of all four tournaments UNLV competed in, and led them to a team title at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. in September. The team also placed in the top five in each of the four fall events.

As for Koelbaek, a sophomore, she broke multiple school records this fall and was named the Mountain West Conference's Golfer of the Month for October.

Her best event by far was the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, where her three-round performance set four school records. Those included low round to par (-6, 66) in both the second and third rounds, the low round (Tie 66) in the second and third rounds, the low tournament to par (-16, 200) and the low tournament (200, -16).

That overall total tied her for the second-best round in NCAA history.

Koelbaek, a native of Denmark, was also one of two Rebels to play in the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships in Australia from Oct. 8-11. She finished 27th overall.

She currently ranks first in the MWC for stroke average (70.67) for less than 10 rounds.

The women's spring schedule begins with the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz., running from Feb. 22-24. The men tee off for the spring on Feb. 2, also in Tucson. They'll take part in the two-day Ping Arizona Intercollegiate.
