Watson becomes third Rebel to earn MWC Special Teams POW honor this season

For the second straight week, special teams played an integral role in UNLV capturing a season-saving victory. And for the second straight week, one of the Rebels responsible was named the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Week.

Junior kicker Kyle Watson kicked three first half field goals to give UNLV a 9-7 lead at the half, he finished the night with 10 points, and the Rebels went on to down Wyoming, 22-14, Thursday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.

This came a week after freshman Deante' Purvis took home the honors on the heels of a 55-yard kick return and a blocked punt in the fourth quarter of a 27-20 victory over New Mexico which was returned for the game-clinching touchdown.

Watson is the third Rebels special teamer to be tapped by the league this season. Defensive tackle Malo Taumua earned the nod back in the season's third week, as his blocked field goal in overtime sealed a 23-20 upset win at then-No. 15 Arizona State.

UNLV looks to earn bowl eligibility this weekend as it wraps up the 2008 regular season by paying a visit to 1-10 San Diego State. That game will kick off at 5 p.m. and can be seen on CBS College Sports.
