Before UNLV's Basketball present took to the floor Tuesday night, alums from Rebels' Hoops past hit the hardwood at the Thomas & Mack in the Legends Game.

There were cries of “oxygen” and “sub” a few times. Three or four air balls. Some playground turnovers.

In the end, the annual Legends Game on Tuesday night at UNLV provided fans with a glance at the Rebels’ past and a tight finish.

Robert Smith, an ace at the line his entire career as a Rebel, nailed two free throws with 7.3 seconds remaining to give the red team a 74-72 victory over the white team.

Everic Gray missed a long jumper with a couple ticks left for the white-clad squad.

The Legends Game took place before UNLV played Washburn in an exhibition at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Thankfully, because of occasional sloppiness, tired players and general upright play, the two 20-minute halves were played with a running clock.

Smith finished with nine points.

Chris Richardson led the red team with 18 points, on a flurry of inside shots and a few dunks. Anderson Hunt played for the white team and Greg Anthony wore a red jersey.

PA announcer Dick Calvert said UNLV coach Lon Kruger would attend a get-together with the legends at the Drop Bar inside the Green Valley Ranch Station Casino at 10 p.m.

Drop Bar personnel might be wise to stock a few oxygen tanks in the place.
