Rebels land two more commits on defense for ‘09 class

The UNLV football staff continues to hit the recruiting trail hard early in the offseason, and over the weekend it paid even further dividends.

On the heels of getting two commitments during Thanksgving week, the Rebels secured pledges from two more defensive prospects, bringing their total number of verbals for the 2009 class to 10.

The new names in the fold are Nate Holloway, a 6-foot-3, 332-pound defensive tackle from Spring Valley High, and Horace Miller, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker from Dunbar High in Baltimore.

Holloway is listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, and is their 68th-ranked defensive tackle in the '09 crop. Miller is graded out by Rivals as a two-star prospect, and is UNLV's second linebacker in the 2009 class, joining Reggie Umuolo of Centennial High in Peoria. Ariz.

Of UNLV's 10 commitments in the class, six are defensive prospects.

Mike Sanford & Co. are far from finished filling out the upcoming class. A few names to keep an eye on are Marcus Sullivan, B.J. Bell and Jarrell Harrison.

Sullivan is a receiver/h-back known for his slick speed, and just finished his senior season at Cheyenne High.

Bell is a defensive end Rivals rates as a four-star recruit. He is the younger brother of former UNLV linebackers Zach and Beau Bell. Beau Bell, who currently plays for the Cleveland Browns, was the 2007 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year. He's currently at Santa Ana (Calif.) Community College.

Harrison, a safety, is another juco recruit, currently at City College of San Francisco. He played his high school ball at Palo Verde High, and is expected to decide between UNLV, Arizona, Missouri and North Carolina State. He is set to visit UNLV this weekend, and the signing day for mid-year junior college transfers is next Wednesday.
