UNLV basketball coach Lon Kruger received a signed national letter of intent from guard Oscar Bellfield of Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The one from Brice Massamba did not arrive on the first day of the spring signing period, but Kruger won't panic that the 6-foot-10 center has changed his mind.
Massamba seemingly could have delivered the letter to Kruger in his office inside the Thomas & Mack Center. He helped Findlay College Prep, which is affiliated with the Henderson International School about 10 miles away, to a 32-1 record this past season.
But it’s not that easy. Both Massamba and his mother, Madelaine Kukolama, must sign the document. Massamba inked it, and it was being faxed to his mother in Sweden at the end of the business day Wednesday.
“Logistics,” said Findlay coach Mike Peck. He said UNLV will get the official letter Thursday.
Next fall, Massamba and 7-footer Beas Hamga will give the Rebels the interior depth that they sorely lacked in 2007-08.
Bellfield, a 6-2 guard, was switched from shooting guard to the point as a senior at Westchester High in Los Angeles.
Forwards DeShawn Mitchell and Darris Santee committed to UNLV during the early-signing period last fall.
Kruger has one scholarship available for his 2008-09 class.
