Reid’s office confirmed the diagnosis this morning when I called. Landra Reid is receiving treatment, including chemotherapy. Reid’s folks emphasized that he is by her side but that his work as majority leader will not be compromised.
"Senator and Mrs. Reid appreciate the thoughts and concerns expressed during this time.” Reid spokesman Zac Petkanas said in response to my inquiry. “They ask that they be afforded the respect and privacy that any family would want.”
You may recall Landra Reid was in a terrible car accident in March of 2010, but she had fully recovered. The Reids have been married for 52 years.
Here’s some information on Stage II breast cancer:

Bless her. Hope she can make a full recovery.

I hope she makes a full recovery...maybe now the Gov't will "allow" us women to get Mammograms without issue!!!!!
I am so sorry to hear this news.
My prayers are with you Mrs. Reid.
I may not agree with a lot of Senator Reids ideas, but I wish no harm to people or their families. I wish you the best of luck and with good treatment things will work out.

I agree it is important. A little over 7 years ago I was staying on top of my wife about her getting one and she put it off because they were painful. For two years she did this and I finally forced her to get one done. And they found something and then they performed a lumpectomy and found that it was pre cancer. To this day it has been five years that she has been cancer free, There is no doubt had she not got that done I would have lost her.
Anyone else reading this pay for it if your insurance won't it is that important.

Agreed.
My wife had breast cancer 11 years ago. The Dr. said she could've been the poster child for early detection.
My prayers are with Landra Reid.
Yes, Casinokid, Mammograms are extremely important. Even if it is painful, it is only once a year and only lasts less than 15 seconds if that long.
I'm sorry your wife had to go through surgery, but I am so happy she is cancer free and that she is still here.
The hospitals here will perform Mammograms every October for $25 if you have no insurance. Only Summerlin doesn't require a Doctors order.
I personally think women should be allowed Mammograms @ 35 whether or not they have family history of Breast Cancer. My 1st one was @ 35, my next was at 40, the only reason why I didn't get any in between was that my insurance would not have covered them and I didn't know if hospitals in Calif gave Mammograms at a reduced price like here in Vegas.
I now get mine done without issue every year as I'm on Estrogen, which can cause Breast Cancer. I'll deal with the pain of the machine as to me, it is better than not knowing.
Our prayers are with Landra and the Reid family.
We hope for a complete recovery.
Insurance companies cannot tell you which tests you can or cannot have. They can only tell you what they will pay for. Sometimes, you should fork out the cash and appeal for reimbursement later.
If you have to pay cash for a test like a mammo, ask for the Medicare rate, or a cash discount.
Mammograms are not really painful anymore. Most large imaging centers have digital mammography, and only a few images are needed. It's less uncomfortable than a pap smear.
Godspeed, Landra.
Good thing she's not on Obamacare..
