So said Gaming Commissioner Randolph Townsend in a letter he delivered to county commissioners today -- less than a week before the board members will consider efforts to limit the proliferation of "Dotty's" across the valley. Townsend made it clear at last week's commission meeting, after approving three more Dotty's-type establishments, that he will do so no more until the issue is resolved. But his missive to the commission indicates he believes the regulation needs to be strictly enforced -- a clear signal that he believes the county (and, perhaps, the state) should restrict the growth.
The commissioners also have received highlights of that commission meeting from Nevada Resort Association lobbyist Billy Vassiliadis.
I have posted both letters below and will have a column on this provocative subject in the Sun on Friday.

Gee, I thought Wynn and Adelson were big "Private Sector" he-men? Looks like they need the "big bad government" to protect their businesses because they can't compete. What's a matter Mr. Gaming tycoons? afraid of little old Dotty's?
Gee, I hope someone asks them about this next time they go on FOX, talking about "government and the private sector."
If Dotty's is allowed to skirt the rules then I want to open a similar establishment too.
The GCB fines the crap out of me in my gaming business if I operate outside the rules. They create new rules all the time and I am responsible to know. Where is the acceptability for them. This is not fair. There is no excuse the GCB cannot and did not follow their own rules. Serious reprimands are in order, or worse.
I do not care about the whole dottys issue and I wish them well in their business.
BUT, I have a serious problem with regulators not knowing what their own laws and rules are and not following them. If the laws don't fit, change them, but until then, deal with it.
This is a good example of so many laws on the books nobody has time to read them and or comply with them all!
If you want to buy a gun and blow your brains out, you can go to a gun store that is not required to serve you food or drink with your bullets.
The city, county and state granted Dotty's their licenses and took their money each and every time.
Now that some big boys want to complain they want to change the rules.
Dotty's has not hurt anyone, they employee many and serve a purpose to those that want to use them. Leave well enough alone.
The smoking law was passed and they gave the bars the choice to serve food or allow smoking, Dotty's chose to allow smoking. Now some want to say they have to seat 50 and serve food. What laws are they to follow? Ones that the public passes or new laws brought on by big gaming? You can't have it both ways.
Lemme understand this... Big Casinos attempted to squeeze the tavern owners with their secret funding of the Nevada Clean Air Act banning the sale of food where smoking is permitted, and when that didn't work they found another means by forcing taverns not to rely on gaming as a high percentage of the total revenues?
Now with many taverns closing, Big Casinos with the Commissioners in its pocket, will force taverns to find some other source of income such that gaming is not longer 'incidental'? So ban smoking, so they can serve low-profit margin food? JUST LIKE WHAT BIG CASINOS WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Smoking, drinking and gambling all go together, and don't think Big Casinos, don't already know that... remove one, and customers won't come in. So in essence, it is a huge burden for a small tavern to heavily modify their establishment to have smoking and a money-losing food service which will just place them out of business....
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED BY BIG CASINOS!
