Still reeling from his "pyramid scheme" gaffe on Social Security, Rep. Joe Heck is distributing a flyer that expands on his "I misspoke" explanation. The flyer, posted at right and passed out at a town hall this week, has another admission of poor phrasing but adds the program "does face significant financial problems." Heck also tries to turn the gaffe to his advantage, using it as an example of his courage: "It's not easy or popular to talk about problems, but you deserve to know the truth."

Heck quotes from the trustees' report, although he does not use the sections Democrats focus on that indicate it is decades before benefits start suffering.

  1. More scare tactics and lies from the GOP folks.

  2. Fact's do NOT get in the way of TeaNut RHETORIC...

"He who warned uh, the British that they weren't gonna be takin' away our arms, uh by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he's riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed."

  3. Spineless.

  4. My Congressman is a loser. I acknowledge the fact that he's been duly elected. Not popularly elected though. Just duly elected during a time when voter turnout was low. And that's going to change at the next elections. All of us need to vote him out and put someone in there that represents us here in Nevada.

Everything shows he is against everything that Nevada is for. You name it. Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Yucca Mountain Project, just to mention a few.

Like another commenter mentioned. He's a hack. His record in Congress shows he does what Speaker Boehner tells him to do. Not what's best for Nevada.

So far, in about 153 days, he has participated in about 64 bills passed in Congress. Not one of those bills had anything to do with job creation. Nor anything worth a damn for the State of Nevada. Just stupid party political stuff like no Federal money for abortions. Actually, three of those bills all were voted for no Federal money for abortions. And the funny thing is that, there is absolutely no Federal money being used for abortions EVER.

My Congressman is wasting my time. He's also wasting everyone else's time because all he does is pursue party politics and dumb social issues where he wants the Government interjected between every female patient and her doctor. The amazing thing is that Heck is a Doctor! He shows his true colors now. He's no longer a Doctor. He's a ruthless, heartless bastard of a politician now who only cares about himself and his party. He actually needs to take all those sheepskins hanging on his wall down and throw them in the trash.

We deserve better than someone who is committed to an ultimate objective in destroying Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security; all to appease corporate masters, continue the Bush tax cuts and participate wholeheartedly in corporate welfare. All at our sacrifice.

He is only a lapdog for Speaker Boehner. Don't believe me? Look at his record. If people are left twisting in the wind and have to fend for themselves in the future, that's perfectly alright with this vampire.

Heck has got to go. Because he don't serve...he victimizes.

  5. Dr. Heck seemed to serve his masters (Big Insurance) at the expense of everyone else.
Congessman Heck seems to serve his masters (Tea party-influenced Republican Party) at the expense of everyone else.

  6. Congressman Heck is doing a good job. So he made a couple of comments about social security being a pyrimid scheme. He is right. The system is broken and needs to be addressed. At least he is showing some initiative, unlike all the loser democrats that cant pass a budget even when they are in the majority in the house, senate and presidebncy last Oct. I cant wait for the next election, where I will be voting for all republicans. Time to clean house in the senate and remove all the worthless democrats. I voted for Heck, and will proudly vote for him again.

  7. Social Security keeps many seniors out of poverty, gives the disabled resources they need to live more independently and can provide financial assistance to orphans and widows. Why does Congressman Joe Heck disparage such a vital service?

And how many times does he have to use the term "pyramid scheme" before people realize he isn't sorry about his poor choice of words, he's sorry he got caught.

  8. We deserve leaders who will stand by the truth, and the truth is that Social Security IS a pyramid scheme. I'll never understand why our leaders refuse to boldly profess the truth.

  9. When new investors are brought in to support the older investors, this is called a Ponzi scheme. The most recent schemer to be caught was Madoff.

I don't see how Social Security is unlike other Ponzi schemes other than the government is behind it.

Someone please explain to me the difference

  10. @Colin - so whats your plan to save SSA, Medicare and Medicaid? I do not know of anyone that supports corporate welfare. How about the wars that your Nobel Peace Prize President Obama promised to end and has not and now has started 2 additional actions(Libya-Yemen). President Obama and all of the Nevada Congressional delegation ARE proponent's of big corporate welfare to all the suppliers of war materials for the Peace Wars at the expense of real American safety and security?

Where is the money going to come from to save all the social programs? Will the U.S. rob the countries we are warring with to pay for the broke social programs?

    Whats your plan?
