As more of the video surfaces from GOP Senate nominee Sharron Angle's meeting last week with Rancho High School's Hispanic kids, the more bizarre it gets. Elsewhere on this blog, I have posted the video of her claiming an infamous still she and Louisiana Sen. David Vitter used in an ad, an incendiary image of Hispanic thugs, may not have been an image of Hispanics. That was nutty enough. But at the same meeting, according to video I have obtained and taken by one of the Hispanic students, she said some of the kids looked more Asian.
Strange? You be the judge.

My grandchildren are evidence of that. I’m evidence of that. I’ve been called the first Asian legislator in our Nevada State Assembly."
That last comment, about her being called the first Asian legislator? I have no idea what she is talking about
UPDATE: The Angle campaign says she made that remark about being the first Asian legislator because "a reporter thought she looked Asian." OK.
How is she evidence of the melting pot?
Wasn't it Angle who said something about "buyer's remorse" after election day?

Jobs: Reid brought geothermal, wind and solar projects, the transmission line, new factories for LED lights and wind turbine parts, the VA Regional Medical Center to open in 2011, preserved 1400 teachers' jobs and influenced banks to lend so City Center could finish and open. This is the short list.
Angle: "As the senator, it's not my job to create jobs, only the climate to business to create jobs."
Advantage Reid because he covers both sides of the equation. He championed a tax cut for small businesses and helped pass the Obama tax cuts, which lowered the federal tax burden for 95% of Nevadans, including Sharron Angle, and probably everyone commenting on this board. Take a good look. My taxes for 2009 were lower than 2008. How about yours?

You have a very nice tally of "Reid Accomplishments," many of which are not solely attributable to Reid but OK.
Now, let me offer my perspective.
April 2009 After 15 years on the job I lost my job because of Reid. Over the last two years, Reid forced more than 2,000 of my co-workers out of their jobs. I was lucky to find work in Las Vegas(albeit at 30% less in salary and benefits than I was making), most of my co-workers had to leave town. Those are just the direct jobs that Reid lost, if you count all the indirect jobs the number is likely 3,000.
So, Nightingale, the way the numbers add up Reid seems to be behind.
Please Nevadans, come to your senses. Sharron Angle is an ignorant sociopath with no coherent plan to get you out of your unemployment situation. If she is elected, expect a national boycott of Vegas, furthering exacerbating your economic problems. Reid isn't perfect, but ask yourself if you want your state to be associated with this madwoman. Look what happened to Arizona's out of state business that cost them $90 million in revenues.

THAT is Nevada's next Senator. Most people WANT to be lied to. They will even glorify a liar. Most of us have lived through proofs of this. We support the liars of our choice though thick and thin. Can anyone say: "Richard Milhous Nixon" and "William Jefferson Clinton?" -- just to name two. (Neither was my choice.)
Most of us can't handle the truth. We don't want to be bothered dealing with facts or solving the maddeningly complex problems of real-life government. We are Monday Morning Quarterbacks, having seen brief excerpts from the game, who passionately "know" what shoulda, woulda, coulda, ougta have been done.
So the "little government" folks get elected and go off to Washington with their ideological leanings. They decide to get the government out of the private markets by cutting spending on things. At the Hearings on these proposals, they get senior military officers testifying that some of these interventions by the federal government in private markets are essential to current and advanced weapons systems. They get testimony, again from senior military officers that repeal of the automatic citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment would severely limit the ability of the combat arms to fill their ranks, as currently 18 percent of the Corps and a slightly smaller percentage of the Army is Hispanic, disproportionately "anchor babies". They get more testimony from military officers that the reduction in "wasteful" social benefits would cause an increase in the homelessness of recent combat veterans -- an epidemic which no one wants to face and which we cover with "I want to thank our veterans for their service."
Complex weapons require government guidance of markets to create and maintain technologies underlying weapons. The people we put at the point of the spear have to believe that the country they are risking all for is worth it. We don't want to acknowledge the truth that we have abandoned those who have fought and suffered for us.
Which way will our "little government" folks go when confronted by the hard truth? Will they take the road of the Conservative Party of Britain, and balance the budget by not building modern weapons? Will they go the way of the German "Conservatives" who after long search for a "leader" found one -- a Leader who exposed the British Conservatives as self-deluded fools, only to be themselves destroyed by their own grander delusions? (For those of you who need a clue, the English word "leader" translates into German as "Fuhrer.")
So the "little government" folks turn to cutting non-military discretionary spending -- but they can't balance the budget by doing so. Where else can they go without raising taxes on the rich? Medical care and Social Security. (But no one can handle that truth, so let's continue to lie about it.)
Only two things are sure: the truth, whatever it may be, will be denied by politicians and most of their constituents.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Angle is an embarrassment. I can't imagine standing up in front of a group of young people and making those kind of looney statements.
And as to the statements above, well it's typical isn't it? Not a single one of the Angle devotees above addressed the issue at hand. In usual fashion they simply change the subject and mumble out their talking points mumbo jumbo.

High unemployment in Nevada is not Reid's fault. If it was caused at the federal level, all states would be in the same condition. I got it! I got it! I've figured it out! Sharron Angle has been saying it all along. Here's why we should vote for her and here's her plan to reduce unemployment:

Simple yet effective! It's BRILLIANT! She's going to force one parent to stay at home and not work. That will open up like 50 million jobs for all the unemployed that will still be allowed to work.
As somebody said on a different article this morning: "The only truth is the truth that Angle reveals to us." She can't help it that it took so long for us to figure it out.
It's really discouraging that so many Nevadan's are unable to see how seriously ill Sharron Angle is. She's so detached and so fragmented that I'm afraid that she's going to have a nervous breakdown if she ever gets to Washington and tries to function in that environment.
Her family and close friends shouldn't have let her run for the senate. But, guess when you see someone on a regular basis, you don't see how they deteriorate over time.
This is sad, and I really feel very sorry for her as a another human being.

Mr Johns, I'm assuming your post at 5:17 was directed to me. Yes, I have an opinion about the high unemployment rate in Nevada and the national debt:
The reason that Nevada is suffering more than the rest of the country is because we do not have a diverse economy. We only have tourism and mining. Nevada was allowed to overbuild housing because the "big name" builders greased the skids causing greed to overcome common sense.
How can we blame Senator Reid for something that has caused a world wide problem. We should blame ourselves for ignoring the perversions of Wall Street and allowing ourselves to be convinced that we could fight a conventional war against terrorists at a cost of eleven million dollars an hour. Who do we think is paying for this? And we're whining about health care reform? That's like complaining that the toilet won't flush when the house is on fire.
People are screaming about getting rid of the pork and at the same time saying that Senator Reid isn't bringing help from Washington. We can't have it both ways.

@Maverick -- Reagan did make only two mistakes.
1) His amnesty policy was wrong.
2) He didn't force the Democrat controlled congress (which controlled the budget at the time) to balance the budget.
He should still be placed on Mt. Rushmore.

I do not find in surprising that Sharon Angle would observe that some Hispanic kids can have a somewhat Asian appearance, as Asians have been part of the South and Central American populations since the 16th century, starting with Filipinos during the Spanish colonial period.
In 1982, while traveling in Hong Kong, I did a double-take upon seeing a Chinese woman on a subway train who was a near dead ringer -- albeit with lighter skin -- of my Mexican-American sister-in-law.
Since that trip, I've noticed quite a few South and Central Americans who have a somewhat Asiatic appearance.

Not that John Ralston needs defending for pointing out the lack of polish of the Angle Campaign and its candidate, but calling him a liberal puppet is completely off base. Picking the low hanging fruit is no crime in politics and if anything he is completely unbiased. The reason why Angle gets so much flack on his program is that she provides him with what is seemingly limitless ammunition to do so with the outrageous campaign ads and word salad exiting her mouth. The Reid campaign, in contrast, does not. Harry Reid decided to figuratively have his jaw wired shut, save a few talking points, after realizing that his seat was in danger after late 2009.
Ralston gives attention to events when they have occurred. Giving an equal amount of coverage to both candidates, as would seem to be the opinion of people claiming a horrifically obvious liberal agenda, would introduce a completely different kind of inhibitive bias into journalism that would limit perception of just how poor or how well a campaign is being run.
That having been said, Ralston does have a love for those low hanging political fruits...
