Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid kicked off the general election campaign two days after the primary with a new ad emphasizing his ability to bring jobs to Nevada. The emphasis is that as the No. 1 senator, "no one can do more" -- as opposed to what would happen if Sharron Angle replaced him, the subtext goes.

The moaning and whining about taxes is really getting tiresome. We live in one of only a handful of states (there are 9, to be precise) without a personal income tax -- and what exactly do we have to show for it? Are businesses flocking to our low-tax Eden? Is our economy flourishing?
Gee, I wonder if that might have something to do with the fact that our infrastructure is terrible. Our roads are awful, our funding for primary education is an embarrassment, and we're now cutting degree programs at our mediocre Universities. With every day that goes by, our State becomes LESS attractive to businesses.
Raise our taxes to an unprecedented level? Unless you made over $200k, your federal taxes went DOWN thanks to Reid, whitesox.
The U.S. unemployment rate is beneath 10% and is holding steady, thanks to the stimulus package passed by Reid.

When Obamacare kicks in Nevada is really going to suffer because our state is heavily dependent upon revenue from private insurance taxes to fund Medicaid and SCHIP. More people on Medicaid and the exchanges will not be subject to that tax. The state is going to have to get the money from somewhere, and who do you think will bear the burden - the taxpayers.
Harry USED to be good for Nevada but no longer represents our interests. Even Big Pharma supports Harry. Doesn't that tell you anything about what Harry got out of Obamacare? If I ever achieve a salary of $200k or more, I don't want to have to pay more taxes because I was successful and others weren't. That is theft plain and simple. Just because someone is successful doesn't make them obligated to take care of those who aren't.

Fact check: The deregulation under Clinton was authored by Republicans, snuck into a spending bill, and signed into law a few DAYS before Bush took office.
So explain to me why Bush and the GOP-lead Congress sat back and did nothing while America was plunged into an economic meltdown via legislation that the GOP wrote. They had six years of dual-branch control to re-implement the legislation.
They did nothing but stand by and watch as the banks loaned money to anyone with a pulse, regardless of risk. They allowed banks to bundle toxic assets and sell them while buying insurance against their losses when those assets eventually tanked.
The GOP refuses to take responsibility... again.

Tax rates for the wealthy are no higher now than they were under Clinton. Don't be so dramatic. The tax rate under Bush was 36%, and when the Bush tax cuts expire, it will be 39%.

Further, you're obviously embarassed to admit it was Phil Gramm who sponsored both the Glass/Steagall repeal AND the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, both of which would not have existed except for support from Republicans, not Democrats.

1.Establishes policies related to federal education funding, administers distribution of funds and monitors their use.
So if our state does not have enough as it is, where will basic revenues come from without the Dept of Ed
2.Collects data and oversees research on America's schools.
Who will compile all the data from the various states to get a better overall understanding of where we stand?
3.Identifies major issues in education and focuses national attention on them.
How is one state going to handle that by themselves?
4.Enforces federal laws prohibiting discrimination in programs that receive federal funds.

its not just one deregulation that caused the crisis. In fact, without the repeal of glass-steagall the malinvestment encouraged by the artificially low interest rates simply would have gone to another sector of the economy. We still would have had a recession.

So what your saying is you want all the benefits of having a US Dept of Education, without the oversight by the Feds.
See, I could agree with a restructuring, something like a federal board of education, made up of members from the state boards. This way each State would know the issues of the others and what they were doing to adress them, and what was working and what wasn't.
See school boards are made up of a limited # of individuals, and State A might be facing an Issue State X faced 2 years ago. So your train of thought would be let State A keep trying different methods until it gets it right, while all along State X had the solution?
There has to be some sort of collective conciousness, so we can exceed together, and learn from each others mistakes.

Closed primaries- eventually pits 2 fringe candidates against one another. Thus the make up of congress becomes far left vs far right.
Campaign finance/lobbying- these two institutions create dependancies in govt. Dependancy is exactly what the framers set out to avoid. Which is why the constitution was drafted to create 3 seperate branches independent from one another. We must eliminate these all together. Lobbying will be easy. Campaign finance will take a think tank to eliminate.
In my head, we will never get the government WE were supposed to until these are changed.

teamster, I was a life long Democrat until I realized that each party takes their turn to practice their own greed and screwing up our economy. The Bush Administration and their wars took over a trillion dollars away from needed projects we the people could have used, and we'll keep paying for this as will our children. Obama steps in with promise for change and the first thing he does is spend close to a trillion dollars to bail out the corporations that screwed up our economy. That's the same as paying a crook to steal. If you haven't noticed our past Presidents are just puppets to big money like the Bilderbergs, tri-lateral commission, etc.
What is really sad is that majority of our politicians lie through their teeth just to get into office anymore. That and it's hard to trust even the voting process.
Yet all we can do is our patiotic duty and go out and vote, then hope for the best. We always have the Sun's forum to come to and lose some steam, then go back out and keep going forward with our lives.
Teamster for you to sit and push the Democrats agenda is your choice, I myself will leave the bad ones in the dust. There's other ways to go so one doesn't have to feel they've lost their pride.

When they're posting here they're fighting to keep their income, they need this income to feel like a million dollars. Every month they feel like they just won the lottery. Keeping Obama and clan in office, they're getting pay raises on a regular basis.

These people need the liberals to tell them what to do otherwise they'd be lost and would wonder the streets how do they take care of themselves. They sit around and they're mad at the world, they just don't understand why their brains are so confused and think the thoughts they do. Since I am an independent voter, where I need no party affiliation to brainwash me, and think for me, it is funny to note the slams on Reid, the ultra lib that is supposely killing us, when no one mentions superstar Ensign whom thinks with his other head. I rather have Reid, than a neo-con Ensign whom boinks his employee/neighbor/best friend wife.

A little known secret your union hasn't' told you, I know you are aware of it, I think maybe you forgot, here it is, the Teamster's primary members were all too stupid to graduate from high school so they decided to join the Teamsters. Also, it a well known fact that Teamsters have destroyed their own union when they disseminated into varying unions, they are no longer united yet too stupid to see it.
You see, when I understand what your party is all about and why the Teamster fights so hard to keep around, it's a well known fact that somehow, somewhere, someplace, somebody from the Teamster gene pool is sucking off the system or will be sucking from system, the gig is up.
It is my choice to help put a stop to people making choices to suck off the system and that these people's gene pool finally be held accountable for their choices and force their gene pool becomes productive members of society.
