Poll, done Jan. 31 by Lisa Grove of 500 state voters (MOE under 5 percent), also shows Democrat Rory Reid losing to Republican Brian Sandoval but defeating GOP Gov. Jim Gibbons, which mirrors other polls. People will question poll because of who paid for it, but it also shows Gibbons with a 25 percent favorability rating, which is huge for him. Reid the Younger's numbers look slightly better to me in this survey, but it also shows 63 percent think Harry Reid is doing a fair or poor job and 54 percent saying President Obama is doing a fair or poor job.
It's an extensive poll, posted at right.

I'm not a professional pollster, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when 101 percent of respondents are either "almost certainly" or "probably" going to vote, with no one indicating even a 50 percent likelihood that they may not vote, then the poll may suffer from sampling error.
No kidding Geoffrey. I propose taxing government workers in Clark County. They make excessive salary compared to government workers around the country, and they have better benefits. Not to mention the average county salary far exceeds the average non-governmental salary.
The only poll that counts is the one which affects your pocketbook...So scare them all with the rhetoric that the Governor is saying that is how you can get people's attention.
I am a teacher and I say NO. MORE. TAXES. The CCSD has a lot of bloat and could find areas to cut--I've made note of the waste over the years--lots of waste!--but CCSD chooses to threaten teacher salary cuts and bigger class sizes, etc. to scare parents into supporting them in continually increasing their budget. They are never willing to actually look through their budget and look for ways to save....
Teacher's Union Releases Report that finds that more money to teacher's union is a great thing!
Woo... I bet the Nevada Mining Association has a report finding that most Nevadans don't want an increase in the mining tax.
I took a poll and it found that the NSEA is full of s--- and is the new mafia. A whopping 100% of those polled (all voters) agreed that CCSD funding should be cut in 1/2 until they start doing their jobs.
Voting doesn't matter, nor does what party you support. The Democrats could have easily passed tax reform legislation in Nevada, instead they chose not to so that big business would finance their campaigns, and to appease the far right. We live in the least educated, most backward state in the union, and our policy makers simply reflect the idiocy of most of Nevada's residents. Lets just admit the facts and stop acting like polls or what unions say matters.
Regardless of political affiliation,
why oh why would Nevadan's NOT want Mining & Gaming to pay a REASONABLE TAX? It thoroughly baffles me that the anti-tax brigade is so BLINDED by their own mantra and rhetoric that they can't see how they are being taken to the bank by these 2 giants of business in our state.
Very true, Megara7. Good to see union members think for themselves, and not just regurgitate the position of the group leaders.
I wouldn't be surprised if we could resolve this budget issue by simply fixing our current tax laws (make sure everyone is paying their fair share and not overtaxed) and reducing/eliminating the obvious waste.
I agree with you Geoffrey.
There are some other glaring problems with the poll.
It could be a rounding problem but they say:
almost certain 87
probably 14
So.....87 + 14 = 101%.
I have doubts that it is a valid poll.
It has a ring of a push poll which is really an political ad via phone call.
Also, the poll is extremely long. I imagine it would take an hour or so do the phone call survey.
They found 500 people to spend an hour on the phone answers questions like:
"Governor Gibbons just doesn't get it. He recently said quote "It is time to stop whining that education in Nevada doesn't work because of lack of funding," after already cutting nearly two hundred million dollars from the education budget and proposing to cut $300 million dollars more. Republicans think we can continue to cut school budgets and still educate our kids for jobs of the future. "
or
"Governor Gibbons and Nevada Republicans refuse to close loopholes that waste millions of taxpayer dollars on giveaways to mining corporations that no other industry gets. For example, mining corporations can deduct marketing costs, materials and supplies from what they pay in taxes. That's just not fair"
or "Governor Gibbons' and the Republicans' approach to solving the budget crisis by cutting funding for education is short-sighted, because it hurts our ability to create and keep good jobs in the state. Giving up on our children is wrong and irresponsible, and it would devastate our economy in the long-term. "
Union teachers are bad teachers.
