Gubernatorial candidate Rory Reid says he can balance the budget through a series of cuts and consolidations and squeezing revenues from the feds and tax deadbeats, among other ideas. Does it add up? Get out your calculators.
See plan at right.

Reid is the Dummocrat's equivalent to Palin.
Cut more city, county, state jobs and add too the line of the unemployed.
Don't cut the politicians wages cause they need their image.
Pretty soon we'll need to have our elected officials actually do something because they'll have laid off too many government employees and they'll have to do it themselves, to get it done.
Imagine that!
I am all for a smaller government. Let's start by getting rid of 50% of our politicans at the local and national level.
Interesting. I don't agree with all of these changes, but it certainly is well thought out. At least it is better thought out than anything empty-headed Gibbons has come up with.
Now I'm beginning to worry that Brian is all fluff and no substance. I haven't heard anything from this guy. Are the Rs getting sold on another Gibbons -- someone who wants the title but can't do the job? I mean, what has he actually managed in his career? Is he really ready for this job? Seems to me that he has prematurely quit every job handed to him... just the male version of Sarah Palin???? Just asking.
Its too bad that the footnotes weren't posted on the page with the reduction amount. Are all of these achievable? Some seem to be, but others do not. The politicians in this State need to face up to the fact that the tax system is broken and needs to be overhauled completely. There isn't room for any more band aids.
gbigs it's not just the paycheck, it's that the people want politicians to be fiscally responsible. When our local government doesn't get involved with its people, they have no idea what is going on until they start living it.
"Reality, there's enough for everybody."
Moving DMV into DOT doesn't seem to make much sense, either. If you are going to do that, then make all motorcycle officers part of DOT and call them what they are: (unwritten) tax collectors.
His comments regarding education really have very little substance/detail, just like his Edge Plan. I actually like Sandoval's plan, but I don't think he'd be able to implement all, or even most, of it with a democratic legislature.
These guys need to offer plans that they can realistically pass, not pie in the sky ideas that they can't pass, and blame the other party as a result.
Same old BS politics. Nothing will change, and our kids and our population will just keep getting more and more stupid.
gbigs why slash any citizens jobs? If our government would control the illegals who are residing and working in our state and soaking up our State, City, and County monies that would be a start to save our state hundreds of millions of dollars. Our citizens need our jobs, send the illegals home, we don't want to pay any more taxes to educate their children. We don't need to have them breaking down our hospitals and bringing in diseases our country has killed off years ago.
This is a problem for the future of our country, unless you feel the North American Union will be better and open up our Northern continent to everone.
"The entire state employment, locals, and city, are to be slashed" . The problem is they are slashing on the people on the bottom. They need to slash from the top. Start with Rory, Sandoval and their friends.
gbigs your ignorance is so obvious it is reaching to a point of stupidity.
Quality of life.
It's one of the things businesses scout for when looking for a location to locate/relocate.
There are costs associated with the enjoyment of a good "quality of life"...
Nevada is on a race to the bottom.
Go ahead, cut out EVERYTHING, why dontcha? (wink wink!)
You and the "Casino Moguls" can live out here in the middle of the desert all by yourselves;
All six of you.
Two things. Rory's plan looks to be $1.2 BILLION short (he is saying the economy will recover and generate an extra $600M, and the deficit has climbed to $3B instead of the $2.4B he used). Be interesting to compare to the Republican plan.
I read people saying cut, but none of them says what to cut. Schools? Road repairs? Police? The state does a lot of essential services. They also need to explain how we don't get sued. There are federal and constitutional mandates, plus existing contractual relationships that you cannot escape for long until a judge makes you honor them.
He has no earthly idea what he's doing. I can't imagine anyone with a brain that works voting for him...
$615 million for investing in education to grow revenues (see summary at end of document)?
Are we going to tax 2nd graders?
Other than this innovation, there is nothing new by SAGE Commission stuff.
Lame and Laughable Rory.
Reids budget plan is ingenious. Where else but in Nevada will snowplow drivers from NDOT double as DMV techs? Just think when you are stopped in a construction zone a NDOT flagger will have the opportunity to multitask and ask you if you need a new drivers license or vehicle title. What a plan. I am puzzled by the plan to cut 40% of state agencies and not cut 40% of the personnel. If there are 20,000 or so state employees, doesn't that equal 8,000 firings? I'm a product of the public school system but I think that's right. Reid has the audacity to attack Sandoval for teacher layoffs. Cut me a break.
@qman724:
I think you nailed it on the head--you can't realize the savings unless you cut--personnel cost are too big to leave untouched under this scheme or any other that relies on cuts only.
Hey Ralston isn't this the same budget ideas that angered you so much against Gibbons. Where's the outcry when it comes to your left leaning cronies. You're such hypocrite your opinions have no credibility.
