The piece is an all-out attack on "government-run health care" and makes many controversial assertions , including that "114 million Americans could lose their current medical coverage under the majority's healthcare plan." I scanned the piece in three parts, which can be seen at right, but it was so extensive I could not get it all onto the blog. What you do not see is a section entitled "Your thoughts are important to me," which indicates Heller "wants to know where you stand on healthcare," but includes several leading questions I have listed here:
1. Should Government Bureaucrats (note caps) be responsible for making individual healthcare decisions?
2. In my opinion, Members of Congress should be required to participate in a government-run plan, do you agree? (Note bad grammar.)
3. Should illegal immigrants be eligible for taxpayer-funded health "affordability credits?"
4. Should small businesses be subject to an 8 percent payroll tax if they cannot afford to offer health insurance to their employees?
You will also see a chart that the Franking Commission, which decides what can be sent at taxpayer expense, has banned other Republicans from using because it is considered a political attack and using questionable facts. As you can see, this is an all-out attack on the Democratic plan., hardly what the franking privilege was designed to be used for when it was conceived.
The other part I did not scan says the following:
PUBLIC DOCUMENT
OFFICIAL BUSINESS
This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense. It is provided as a service to 2nd Congressional District constituents.

A spokesman for Heller says he received approval from the Franking Commission.
Technorati

Deano has a heller alot of nerve.
It is no different than what many Democratic members mailed out on the taxpayer dime.
If we agree that all franking should end and all mailers should come out of the members campaign funds then I would be OK with that.
Incumbents of both parties abuse the taxpayer. The only reason they're not called on it is that they ALL do it.
It puts Heller squarely in the camp of big business, big greed, play the fear card, and hope it gets him re-elected. It's not about serving his district residents. It's not about being a leader. It's not about taking care of people or helping the long term prospects of our economy. It's all about Dean, and nothing but the Dean. It's cynicism on steroids. It doesn't get any uglier than this. Period.
I wonder how much that cost us? Just more evidence of Republican hypocrisy. They talk a big fiscal responsibility game, but it turns out it really is just talk.
" Just more evidence of Republican hypocrisy. They talk a big fiscal responsibility game, but it turns out it really is just talk."
Lets play this silly game.
Democrats are against defense spending and going after terrorist.
Therefore, if a terrorist starts to attack a Democrat then he should just give up and not call for help.
Sounds dumb and very similar to what you are saying.
as does preaching fiscal responsibility after NOT being fiscally responsible for 8 years. It's an endless cycle, let's find a solution.
