In a handwritten letter to Cindy Hampton shortly after their affair began, one her husband says was written in the presence of U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn and others and one he called "the most important letter I have ever written," Sen. John Ensign says he used her "for my own pleasure," did not think of her family and "betrayed everything I believe in." He also wrote that he "justifed my actions because I blamed my wife." Doug Hampton said on "Face to Face," though, that within 24 hours of penning the missive, Ensign again was pursuing Cindy Hampton.

The letter is posted at right.
