Is McCain dangerous for America? Harry Reid thinks so

That's what he said today during a taping of "Face to Face," which I have pasted below. But at one time, as you can see from the pic at right by Sun photog Sam Morris, they were pals. Maybe Reid was just pretending to like him to get a vote. The interview transcript:

I've served with the man 26 years. Do I have the ability to speak with

experience about someone who has abused everyone he's dealt with?

Someone who does not have the temperment to be president, who's wrong on

the war, wrong on the economy, wrong on nuclear waste. What am I

supposed to do? Walk around talking about what a great guy he is? I

don't believe that.

He is not who he portrays himself to be. He is not a maverick. He's a

clone of George Bush. He votes with him 95 percent of the time.

JR: But, that's just rhetoric though. The point that you've tried to

make, when you say he doesn't have the temperment, that's just a very

close step away from saying it's dangerous to let him become president.

Reid: Well, if you said it, I wouldn't correct you.

JR: Is that right? You really think that?

Reid: That's right.

More:

I just think he doesn't have the temperment to be president. There

isn't a Republican serving in the Senate that's happy he's the nominee.

Now, they're all supporting him, but I'll tell you they have told me.

I've had Republican senators tell me they don't think they'll vote for

him.

Discussion: 10 comments so far...

  1. What else would Harry Reid, a hard core Democrat, have to say except to vilify McCain? Harry Reid is also an expert on confabulation. How can anyone believe much of what he says? I don't think he even believes much of what he says!

  2. The hot head is absolutely a danger to us. He flip flops like an IHOP pancake, hates women (they are c*nts) and has no clue on the economy.

  3. Doug, so what do you think about hardcore Republicans like Rick Santorum, who have said the exact same thing?

"As a conservative I don’t agree with McCain on many issues and I don’t think he has the temperament and leadership ability to move the country in the right direction."

Or military leaders like Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, who said, "I like McCain. I respect McCain. But I am a little worried by his knee-jerk response factor."

Or other military leaders like General Merill McPeak, who said, ""McCain has got a reputation for being a little volatile."

Or New Hampshire Republian Bob Smith, the former senator, who said, "His temper would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him."

    Clearly, this is an issue.

  4. Here are some more, just for good measure:

"The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me." - Republican Senator Thad Cochran

"I decided I didn't want this guy anywhere near a trigger." - Republican Senator Pete Domenici

"What happens if he gets angry in crisis in the presidency? It's difficult enough to be a negotiator, but it's almost impossible when you're the type of guy who's so angry at anybody who doesn't do what he wants. It's the president's job to negotiate and stay calm. I just don't see that he has that quality." - Former Arizona Chairman of the GOP John Hinz

McCain "has a legendary temper and often uses fowl and obscene language." James Dobson

Mitt Romney's campaign even released a "Top 10 List" of McCain's verbal AND PHYSICAL attacks on other Republicans.

This is an opinion held by many, many people.

  5. LOL, there's even an IBD Editorial on this!

    Some excepts:

"If that were the case, we'd say more power to him. But it seems McCain goes ballistic on anyone who disagrees with him. And he's not just verbally abusive, but physically threatening."

    and

"We appreciate that McCain, who was dead right about the surge, is willing to stare down "radical Islamic extremists." We want them to fear our commander in chief. It helps if they believe he's got his finger on the button, so to speak, as the Soviets believed with President Reagan."

"Difference is, Reagan didn't have an itchy trigger finger. His recently published diaries confirm that he skillfully used firm diplomacy behind the scenes. We're not so sure McCain can control his bellicosity."

"Reagan disarmed Mikhail Gorbachev with his charm. When McCain says he looks Vladimir Putin in the eye and all he sees is "a K, a G and a B," it may not be just a line he uses in debates."

"We have our issues with McCain, but none more important than presidential temperament. Is he fit for the highest office in the land?"

  6. Interesting comments. So what we have are a friendly far left-wing Socialist, or a hot head Liberal (RINO) running for President. Both are not good choices.

  7. Of course Reid has an even temperment.

Yes Harry has the ability to speak with experience, as someone who has abused everyone he's dealt with.

Reid would never call anyone a liar.

Reid would never call anyone a ass.

Reid would never call anyone sick.

Reid would never like a Republican.

Reid would never drill for oil (except in Searchlight)

Reid would not believe that geothermal energy would release globe warming gases.

  8. McCain can be all of this and worse and he is still better for our future than Obama bin Biden.

  9. What else would you expect the Democratic majority leader to say about the Republican nominee, lol? Please.

Reid's probably most upset that McCain has managed to maintain a personality while succeeding politically, which Reid never could do.

  10. Searchlight Harry has always been dangerous to the American way of life and in most cases is a loser. His approval rating is close to single digits and the more he spouts his crap the lower his ratings go.
