Top 10 ways to watch a football game

NOW:

Now that I've seen one in 3D -- watching Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops mismanage a championship game inside the 10-yard line looks even more spectacular that way -- I've put together a poll of the best way to view a football game.

To build suspense, we'll list them in reverse order, just like on the BCS selection show.

10. On a 13-inch dorm room television when you're supposed to be studying for a trig exam.

9. With your grandpa, if you're lucky enough to still have one. Just don't let him talk you into holding the rabbit ears. That's what grandmas are for.

8. On a plasma TV at a plasma center. Granted, this is a rare combination. But the spectators almost always have an interesting story to share during halftime.

7. At Cheech and Chong's.

6. On one of the four big screens at Buffalo Wild Wings. But be warned: If UNLV is playing you'll be lucky if the bartender can find The Mtn. on her dish.

5. On a 65-inch Mistubishi DLP high definition television. But if you're coming to my place, you better arrive early. If not, you'll have to sit in one of the little chairs off to the side and the picture's not as bright from that angle.

4. In 3D. But the Drew Carey frames are only a slight improvement over the red and green cellophane lenses they used in 1953 for "It Came From Outer Space."

3. In person (except if the game is in Oakland).

2. At IMAX (Just like the Back East media and this year's Utah team, I've never seen a football game on the giant IMAX screen. That's why I'm voting it No. 2).

1. On your living room couch with six good buddies or six cold beverages. Any six will do.

THEN:

A lot of people remember where they were when President Kennedy was shot, or some other monumental occasion like that.

I, on the other hand, remember the first TV program I ever saw in color.

It was "Dr. Kildare." On a Sylvania set that looked like a piece of furniture.

My mom was a big fan of Richard Chamberlain. She didn't care much for Vince Edwards, who played Ben Casey.

I don't recall the second program I ever watched in color. It was probably the Bozo The Clown show or "Julia" starring Diahann Carroll.
