McMahon jersey probably not headed to the rafters

NOW:

I meant to get to this earlier, but then somebody stole my truck and the Maui Invitational tipped off and ... well, you know how it goes.

Anyway, Jim McMahon's dad can pretty much forget about his son being admitted into the BYU Hall of Fame at long, long, long last, based on his son's comments to Sports Illustrated's Dan Patrick in the issue with Arizona State basketball players on the cover. (It must have been a slow week.)

Patrick asked McMahon if he made up the classroom work he didn't finish after getting booted out of school if he would eligible for induction.

This is what the punky QB said:

"I've tried to do that home study and I think I'm nine or 12 hours short. I've tried to do it twice. Actually I had my sister-in-law do all my work. All I had to do was take the test. I wouldn't have passed so the hell with it. I was never a classroom kind of guy."

McMahon went on to to say he was punished for drinking a beer on a public golf course, because BYU considered the world its campus. And that BYU used him -- and he used it.

"I went to play football and that's it," he said.

"They said if you don't want to be part of the lifestyle, that's no problem. And that was a lie because they would pretty much bother you every day."

So it would appear Cougars wide receiver Austin Collie will be able to keep wearing jersey No. 9.

THEN:

While there are many fine Thanksgiving traditions, watching the Detroit Lions play football should not be one of them.

Especially if you are a Lions fan.
