UNLV blows out BYU

This highly-anticipated contest was never even close as the Runnin' Rebels blew out the Cougars, 70-41, Tuesday night at the Thomas and Mack Center.

Senior Curtis Terry scored a team-high 21 points in the Rebels home opener of Mountain West play.

"Not only did we play hard, we played extra smart," said UNLV coach Lon Kruger, whose squad (13-4 overall and 2-1 MWC) has won nine of its last 11 games. "A really good effort, I'm really proud of them. A lot of guys stepped up."

One of those Rebels was junior Rene Rougeau, who added 15 points, for UNLV — which will be off until next Wednesday when it hosts Wyoming.

The key stat, as has been the case most of the season, was the three for UNLV. The Rebels knocked down 10-of-25 deep balls, while the Cougars — who also came in with a 12-4 mark — hit just 3-of-21 3-pointers.
