Kathy Silver, who has been University Medical Center’s interim chief executive for 15 months, will become the public hospital’s permanent leader, county officials announced today.
Brian Brannman, a retired rear admiral in the Navy who had been competing for the job with Silver, also will join UMC as its chief operating officer. He most recently commanded the Naval Medical Center in San Diego.
County Manager Virginia Valentine said Silver will bring stability and institutional knowledge to the financially struggling hospital, while Brannman will bring a much-needed fresh perspective to the facility, where police say former chief executive Lacy Thomas allegedly steered do-nothing contracts to friends in Chicago.
County commissioners are expected to ratify Silver’s appointment at their meeting next week.
