Over the past decade in Las Vegas, Wayne Newton has performed at the Stardust, Las Vegas Hilton and MGM Grand. He'll add the Tropicana to that list, and an announcement is expected Wednesday during a news conference at the hotel. Multiple sources familiar with the contract talks confirmed the partnership last night.
Details of the show and terms of the contract, along with exactly how the the 67-year-old Newton and new Tropicana Chief Executive Alex Yemenidjian came to the agreement, will be forthcoming. Newton, celebrating his 50th year in show business in Las Vegas, will stage his show in the venerable Tiffany Theatre, home of "Folies Bergere" for 49 years until that show closed in March.

Dear Wayne,
You had your time in the sun, but that time has come and gone. Really, Wayne, it's time to hang it up and go quietly into the sunset. Your voice has been gone for years, and the dye-job is a little over done, and the plastic surgery is distorting your face.
Wayne: "Danke Shein", but please, no more!
He's still alive?
Let Mr Las Vegas have his fun. I'm sure Balki Bartokomous & the whole Island of Mypos will by tickets to see him.
As long as people keep buying tickets (and they will) Wayne should work as long as he desires. Might add to the much needed foot traffic at the Trop. All the best to Wayne and the Trop.
Spock, no he is not. He will be appearing in the body exhibit.
Master $125 million dollar make-over Strategy: Alex says, What ever it takes, let's get Newton back. Pay him at least $175 bucks a week.
Then, let's raid the Rivera and Strat of all the OLD GEEZER VIP's who are
willing to drop $16 bucks a day for a room, then get em over here.
Keep the flea beds, but let's go for hi-limit slots: nickels
BAM! You gotta love it, Smooth one Alex!!!!!!!
Alex, Your Good! Your Good!
I think the last time they shampooed the carpet at The Tropicana was in 1972.
How about getting Frankie Laine ? Oh he's dead so is the TROP!!!!
The Trop has already emerged from bankruptcy, unlike MGM-Mirage, Harrahs, and Sands Corp. All of those floundering corporate hippos still have their worst days in front of them. The Trop, spending $125 mil on it's renovation, looks to be doing it just about right. That's pennies compared to the massive amounts of debt the others have taken on and have nothing to show for it. Face it, Wayne Newton is still a draw, has the "classic Vegas" cache, and shrewdly has evolved his act into more of a Master of Ceremonies role, as opposed to making himself the sole focal point of his show. This signing is a winner. The Trop has "Mr. Las Vegas," a venerable Vegas property, a priceless location, and they'll be rolling out their renovation during the next year. But I bet their business model will still allow them to be profitable, even while catering to the budget crowd, unlike City Center which hopes and prays the whole world is made up of decadent spendthrifts.
Will they get rid of the moldy carpets? They should give each patron a small spray bottle of Febreeze when they enter.
Man why would you put so much into a property and then throw a has been like Wayne Newton in it ? He was a master in his time but his time is up. I went and saw a show called "Up On The Roof" starring Tony Pace. He is an incredible performer and they need to have to have that show in as a headliner.
Holy crap, Wayne Newton's hitting on Mom
I think we know who sent the dress
Don't worry.
You have nothing to fear from Wayne Newton. He's...
...unattainable.
Did you see him staring at...
Watch your mouth.
I think I'll go upstairs and take a bath.
Not me.
Anyone for craps?
; )
He's no Franco Deliz. Now that guy knew how to put on a show.
