Dave Matthews Band among acts expected at Planet Hollywood Theatre for the Performing Arts

Where’d Tuesday go? Or August? This year? The decade? No matter. A few late-night notes as 702.tv glows from the Olevia:

*The Planet Hollywood Theatre for the Performing Arts hasn’t staged a show in a terrifically long time, since May 15 when an ’80s-themed music festival titled “Freestyle Jam” turned loose on the concert hall. This will change -- it has to, given the TPA’s penchant for staging live entertainment -- and one of the acts expected to be booked into the 7,000-seat venue is Dave Matthews Band. Look for Matthews to be announced amid a series of acts to visit the theater before the end of the year, October or November likely, as TPA returns to relevancy in a major way. BASE Entertainment and Planet Hollywood officials said only that nothing official has been announced regarding the acts coming to the TPA.

*Hotel 32 at Monte Carlo, the just-opened boutique hotel that is in essence a renovated 32nd floor of a hotel marred by a fire and resulting water damage to the hotel last year, has a distinct backstage-style view of CityCenter. I’d not seen the Elvis/Cirque theater at the vast project until a walk-through this afternoon. The hotel has a lot going for it with independent access, personal assistants (not butlers, exactly) attending to personal and professional requirement, and hotel-specific iPod touch handhelds to all guests. Lance Burton or Zowie Bowie might not appreciate guests booking spa treatments with these flashy handhelds during performances, but it’s a small consideration considering that Hotel 32 is the only resort in town to provide that service. The prices are $250 to $1,200, not eye-popping in the realm of high-end Vegas lodging (about in line with Skylofts at MGM Grand), and the rooms lack for nothing. For instance, a good place to play racquetball and host a dinner for eight is the giant penthouse showers. But a pool table in a hotel suite seems a little pointless. I don’t know that you stay in your room to shoot pool during a weekend in Las Vegas, unless you’re filming a buddy movie set in Vegas. And offering a dozen pillow varieties seems more like something to brag about than an actual, practical need. But after spending some time at a couple of events at Monte Carlo over the past couple of weeks (the Hotel 32 unveiling and Zowie Bowie’s announced residency in the Lance Burton Theatre and The Pub), it’s clear hotel President Anton Nikodemus is a guy to keep an eye on at MGM Mirage. He’s Rat Pack-slick, smart and very Vegas.

*Granted a temporary license by the Clark County Commission to do business until Sept. 1, Prive is hoping to reopen Friday. Hey! Oh! We’ll see if Table 69 is back in action, too.
