Foothill High to promote inclusion

Next week, Foothill High School will participate in the eighth annual Inclusive Schools Week celebration. Dec. 1 through 5, students across the country will take part in celebrating their efforts in achieving inclusion in schools. The event is sponsored by the Inclusive Schools Network at Education Development Center, Inc.

Foothill has coined the name "STARS" (Soaring Toward Academic Rigor for all Students) as the theme for the week of celebration.

"Everyone at our school benefits from inclusive practices, because we want all our students to become STARS," said Foothill Principal Jeanne Donadio.

"Inclusive Schools Week has celebrated the progress that schools have made in providing a supportive and quality education to an increasingly diverse student population, including students who are marginalized due to disability, gender, socio-economic status, cultural heritage, language preference and other factors," according to inclusiveschools.org

The week will be packed with activities for Foothill High students, including:

  • Monday: "Star Connection" -- Classroom Decorating and Judging
  • Tuesday: "Shining Star" -- Student Favorite Teacher Voting Event
  • Wednesday: "FHS Shines" -- Teacher Surveys
  • Thursday: GRAND OPENING -- "Teacher Resource Library," FHS Library, 1:30 p.m.
  • Friday: "Star Search" Hall of Fame (Famous celebrities with disabilities awareness contest) and Student Dress-up Contest
