Burkholder MS presents ‘A Christmas Carol’

Ebenezer Scrooge learned a lesson in the Christmas spirit Wednesday night during the Burkholder Middle School production of “A Christmas Carol.” The drama club, which meets each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for an hour after school, put on a well-rehearsed play.

For many of the participants, this was their first performance in front of an audience.

“I was a little nervous, but it was OK. This is the first play I’ve been in,” said Kennedy Villarreal, who played Peter.

Amber Dufrene, who played Mrs. Fezziwig, said that she wants to “become an actress,” and this was her first play, as well.

The newly opened Burkholder campus has an advantage in the drama category. Having the stage from the old gym-turned-cafeteria provides unlimited opportunities for performances and productions.

Ms. Gregorio, the drama club director, sees that everyone in the drama club who wants to participate in the production has a chance to do so.

“Everyone has some part,” said Tabitha Winward, who played the teacher. “Some people are doing curtains, lighting or props.”

The production was enjoyable and the kids did a great job. I was pleased that the acting I witnessed at the middle school level was comparable to seasoned high school performers.

The drama club will take a break from meeting until the spring.
