Moapa Valley High School Principal Grant Hanevold holds the “Victory Hammer,” a rivalry trophy, during a game between Virgin Valley High School and Moapa Valley High School in Overton on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011. The Moapa Pirates shut out the Bulldogs 18-0 to retain the hammer.

The high school football regular season in Southern Nevada will come to an end this week, with schools throughout the region looking for strong performances to gain momentum for the postseason.

Speaking of momentum: The picks column is finishing strong.

Two weeks ago, the column went undefeated. Last week, it went 16-1 and stands at 121-20 overall for the season.

Let’s take a look at another slate of games.

Shadow Ridge at Liberty

Closer than you think. Liberty 34, Shadow Ridge 19

Virgin Valley at Moapa Valley

It’s always a close game when these two communities come together. Moapa Valley 24, Virgin Valley 18

Foothill at Basic

Foothill has too much speed at the skilled positions. Foothill 37, Basic 23

Silverado at Arbor View

Former Valley High teammates Matt Gerber (Arbor View) and Andy Ostolaza (Silverado) face off in the regular season finale. Arbor View 42, Silverado 0

Coronado at Bishop Gorman

The No. 1 ranked team in the country won’t be challenged this week. Bishop Gorman 49, Coronado 0

Durango at Desert Pines

Jaguars enjoy a lopsided win, gain playoff momentum. Desert Pines 48, Durango 6

Faith Lutheran at Las Vegas

The Class 5A, Division II, is completely up for grabs. Any team can win. Faith Lutheran 23, Las Vegas 16

Canyon Springs at Valley

Great spot for Canyon Springs to return to its winning ways. Canyon Springs 50, Valley 13

Sierra Vista at Green Valley

Green Valley resets after disappointment of losing in Henderson Bowl, beats Sierra Vista to enter postseason with a win. Green Valley 21, Sierra Vista 9

Pinecrest at Eldorado

Regardless of what happens, the teams will meet next week in the playoffs. Eldorado 29, Pinecrest 14

Chaparral at Sunrise Mountain

Sunrise Mountain is the better team, but Chaparral’s misdirection rushing attack is problematic for the Miners in a close game. Sunrise Mountain 22, Chaparral 18

Legacy at Desert Oasis

Legacy will be favored to win every week the rest of the season. Legacy 27, Desert Oasis 19

Clark at Spring Valley

Spring Valley, which has struggled with player depth issues, finally gets into the win column. Spring Valley 27, Clark 26

Del Sol at Bonanza

Bonanza won four games over four seasons from 2018-2022. Friday, the Bengals should win for a fourth time in 2023. Yes, realignment is working for some. Bonanza 29, Del Sol 23

Cheyenne at Centennial

Winning the state championship is a realistic goal for Centennial. Centennial 49, Cheyenne 0

Palo Verde at Cimarron-Memorial

Another chapter is written in the showdown between these neighboring schools with a two-decade history of competing against each other. Palo Verde 27, Cimarron-Memorial 19

Somerset Losee at Mojave

It doesn’t appear any team in the classification can stop the running game of Somerset Losee. Somerset 41, Mojave 13

Western at Rancho

In the last game of the season, one of these teams will win for the initial time. Rancho 13, Western 12

Boulder City at Pahrump
