Desert Oasis names new football coach

Assistant coach Faron Seibel was promoted Monday to head coach of the Desert Oasis High football program.

He replaces Matt Jenkins, who resigned two weeks ago to move his family to North Carolina.

This will be the first head coaching position for Seibel, who served as an assistant the past six years at Silverado and would have been in his first year on the Desert Oasis staff.

He has been involved in coaching since the 1980s, mostly in his native Montana.

"It's like we have our own little community of here," Seibel said of the school that services most of the Mountain's Edge community in Southwest Las Vegas. "It's such an ideal situation. The support reminds me of how it was back in Montana."

Seibel doesn't plan on changing much. The Diamondbacks went 3-6 last year in their first-year of existence and the coach expects to contend for a playoff spot this year in the Southwest Division.

"The kids are very excited about learning the game," the coach said. "There are a few things that I plan to put my stamp on, but I assured them there wouldn't be a lot of change."
