For some time, the folks at MGM Mirage have touted the fact that CityCenter – all 18 million square feet of it – will open at once by the end of 2009.
While there may be one heck of a grand opening for the $9.2 billion city-within-a-city on the Strip, actual opening dates for the various buildings will differ.
This week, CityCenter Chief Executive Bobby Baldwin revealed more specifics in an interview with the Sun. He said Vdara, the condominium hotel building the company topped off this week, would open around August 2009 and Aria, the main hotel-casino building, would open December 16, 2009.
The company previously had been saying the project would open by November 2009.
So, is Aria the official name for the resort and casino?
I haven't read that anywhere and even on City Center's website it is not referred to as Aria.
What an amazing project, it's also amazing how they can predict the exact opening day. Wow.
Yeah, I think it's appropriate the place will start opening in the fall.
Or should I say *during* a fall?
I hope that they haven't bitten off more than they can chew. The timing for the opening (or the first opening) will surely test the theory of "build it and they will come".
