Findlay College Prep senior Victor Rudd and Bill Hankins, Rudd’s guardian, will be closely watching upcoming UNLV basketball games.
Rudd, a versatile and electric 6-foot-7 forward, is considering UNLV, Gonzaga, Arizona, Marquette and Oregon State.
Hankins said Monday night that Rudd watched the Rebels’ victory at Louisville on New Year’s Eve with keen interest.
“He was real excited about it,” Hankins said. “I like (UNLV). He likes it also. We want to make sure it’s exactly a perfect fit for him. That was a big win against Louisville. It was at Louisville, too.
“The Rebels are amazing. It could be a good fit, especially if they keep beating teams like Louisville.”
Hankins had said Rudd will pick a college by the end of this month. Monday night, Hankins said Rudd probably will make his decision by the middle of February.
Hankins, the father of Findlay guard Willie Hankins, said he and Rudd will make an unofficial visit to UNLV for its next home game, against Wyoming on Jan. 17.
“Right now, we’re just focused on playing basketball,” Bill Hankins said. “We’ll go over to UNLV with interest, to see exactly how they’re playing. We’re excited about UNLV.”
Findlay (14-0), ranked second in the latest USA Today Super 25 national poll, plays host to Eldorado High on Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Henderson International School, with which the Pilots are affiliated.
The Henderson gym is south on Eastern, off the 215. Take a left on Summit Grove, and it will be on the left side just before Sandy Ridge.
Technorati

Victor, We want you to stay in Vegas!
I'm sure Rudd isn't the only recruit Kruger is looking at. The 'let's wait and see' attitude may backfire if that scholarship is snapped up.
Thing is, as you well know Lenny, if Vic decides going elsewhere, then UNLV has another scholly for 2010. Nothing wrong with that.
Remember, though, Mr. Hankins and Vic like UNLV's geographically desirable location to the San Fernando Valley area of So Cal and Kruger's system, so those are two big pluses. Nothing is a sure thing, but the Rebels have the advantage of having two or three coaches, including Kruger, at every Findlay home game.
If anyone hasn't seen Findlay, Thursday night's game is a must-see. You'll want to say you saw Rudd before he took his high-wire act to the Mack.
Rob, what time is the Findlay Prep Game on Thursday? Im up in Anthem, which is 5 mins away from the school. Also, whats the ticket price? I wouldn't mind checking out that game. Thanks.
Runnin, it's 7 pm. Get there a bit early. The stands were pretty packed for the recent tourney there, in which Findlay beat NY Rice in the finale. They're a growing attraction, so that's why it would be best to be a little early. I think it's $5 to get in. Worth every penny.
In the next year or two, you'll be watching the NCAA tournament and looking at a few Findlay alums, so you'll be able to say you saw them as they were about to take off. Have fun
This seems like a no-lose situation. I'd prefer to see the last ride go to a shot blocking center, but Rudd has such a huge upside. Shopping around for the 'perfect fit' would be a nice luxury, but after watching the Rebs this year it's obvious that Rudd's athleticism would be a huge asset in the years to come.
midnight, Massamba is still developing. He has a lot to learn, but he's very smart and it'll click. Just a freshman. Santee, too, has some things to learn in his first D-I season. Lopez could be dynamic. He's tenacious, blocks with authority and goes to the rim hard. No hesitation with that kid. And Okonji is blue-collar who seems to play taller than his 6-9 frame. That should suffice down low for the near future. It does appear that Rudd would fit that 'intangible' quality. Imagine someone like Darger who had the ability to pump-fake his foe into the bleachers, then use one power dribble to take it in and rattle the rim. That's Vic Rudd.
