Findlay (14-0) beats Mount Zion in Kentucky

Findlay College Prep raced out of the gate Saturday night and thumped Durham (N.C.) Mount Zion, 63-44, in Lexington, Ky., at the Humana Basketball Classic.

The Pilots (14-0) scored 22 of the game’s first 25 points and led, 27-10, at halftime.

Senior forward Victor Rudd led everyone with 23 points and senior guard Avery Bradley tallied 21 points and recorded 10 steals.

Mount Zion committed 26 turnovers against Findlay’s stifling defense.

“We got after it,” said Pilots coach Mike Peck, who is 46-1 in two seasons at Findlay.

Findlay eked by Ricmond (Ind.) New Creations by six points on Friday, and Peck blamed himself for his team’s lackluster showing in that game.

The Pilots flew to Louisville on Thursday, then hung out at Freedom Hall for a few hours. Junior guard Cory Joseph is interested in the Cardinals, so it was an opportunity for him to watch Louisville practice.

Peck said, in hindsight, he wished he had taken his team directly to Lexington so the players could get off their feet and rest for Friday’s game.

Findlay returns home to play host to Eldorado High at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
