Certified letters almost always hearken bad news - in my case, usually something I've neglected with the potential for devastating consequences. So imagine my delight to find a certified letter in my Channel 8 mailbox that has languished there for more than a month. And imagine my relief to find it was only from the police.
It turns out Metro wants me to stop by and help out with an internal affairs investigation regarding a story we broke, a story that is potentially damaging for Metro.
Me?! The driver of the white Volvo with an until recently unpaid speeding fine who ducks cops when her brake light is out? They want to talk with me? This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Imagine the perks: No waiting behind police lines. Puffin' cigars with the sheriff. If my friends back in the newsroom could see me now!
But alas, my boss says I must decline. Besides, I spilled my guts to Jon on the TV show a month ago. Just in case my would-be friends at Metro missed it, we've posted that program, and the letter, too.

Why shouldn't the FAA investigate the emergency helicopter landing by Metro? I always thought auto-rotation was an instantaneous maneuver done when the engine fails. How come they had time to call MCCarren Tower? and have they street blocked off by a couple of Metro cars?
Also, how come the copter took off after no mechanic examined they aircraft? Did they know nothing was really wrong with the Aircraft?
This sound like pilot error, fuel mismanagement or something.
Don't be dumb mred. They didn't radio McCarran or have police block off the streets (I heard the landing on my police scanner.)
Also, Ch. 8 has video on their website of mechanics testing the helo before it takes off.
Yours must be the stragest comment I've seen in a while (and that's saying something).
Why are you being so defensive? Don't you cops want to be held to the same standards as everyone else? Since when is channel 8 the public's investigative arm for air crashes?. It's obvious that we are going to see a major accident involving these aircraft, given the slipshod nature of Metro's inability to drive cars safely, let alone operate aircraft. The copter was closer than 500 feet to buildings, people and vehicles, a clear violation of FAA regulations.
I'll get the facts by filing a FOIA request with these government agencies.
Facts? We don't need no stinkin' facts! This area is for anyone who wants to make up anything they want. Facts. No good argument was ever helped by facts.
