L.A. Times: Nevada's senseless war on California

(via Los Angeles Times) · August 27, 2009 · 2:03 PM

From the Los Angeles Times: In case you haven't heard, California and Nevada are at war. Not an old-fashioned war with bullets and tanks, but a newfangled media battle over which one is the last best hope for entrepreneurs and businesses in these troubled times.

Nevada started it. The Nevada Development Authority launched a campaign that will spend a million dollars over a year to air a series of ads enticing California businesses to move to Las Vegas. The spots boast about Nevada's low taxes and workers' comp fees and feature a chimpanzee and a really bad actress portraying a television newswoman who turns into a pig wearing bright red lipstick.

  1. For being such a beautiful place California sure does suck. I would love to live there, but it makes zero sense to do so.

  2. California is taking everything serious today. Toyota, the manufacturer that sold the most cars under Cash for Clunkers just announced the closing of their only west coast assembly plant in Fremont Calif.

4,500 directly employed workers and estimated 35,000 workers who supply and service this plant now face layoffs.

Billions to Japan, borrowed from China, and massive unemployment for California.

Maybe we didn't think this all out too well? Any answers Mr. Reid? You run the Senate. Tell us how this all works out for America. How does this help Nevada or California?

  3. Hey neiman1
isnt that the truth. why cant more people see this.It makes no sense at all. Good to know there are still people out there with common sense.

  4. RE: Neiman

Please post on the LA Times site, as well as the Las Vegas papers, so Los Angelans will be able to tap into your wisdom.

California is one of the biggest, most high tech economies in the world. They will rebound.

Voters initiates in California over several years hampered state government in Sacramento from being able to adapt, act and respond to changes in the fiscal position of the state. Voters and property owners got what the majority wanted, and now they are going through a learning process about the outcomes.

Senator Reid has no direct jurisdiction in California state politics and elections. He represents Nevada in Washington DC, on the east coast.

Nevada and California are light years apart, few comparisons. It has been stated as California goes, so goes the nation.

  5. Here is the article on the plant closure. My question for harry Reid is why did we borrow Billions from China to stimulate Toyota as they are closing the plant. Seems like we would be way ahead to have just not borrowed the money. It wasn't free.

  6. Don't Forget to place the blame partly at the feet of the 'three stooges' of the Senate representing California: They recently publicly announced they would be stepping in to help negotiate a package of 'incentives' for Toyota to stay.. Needless to say as soon as the Ca. legislature interfered it completely doomed the transaction to failure...

Dianne "Blum - CB Ellis Real Estate' Feinstein

Barbar "Stewy' Boxer and lest we forget

    Nancy "Bela Lugosi' Pelosi

Certainly some of the Worst Ever. But don't worry, only 4,700 direct jobs lost with a reported ripple effect of 50,000.

If you are stupid enough to come here to California and find yourself in the unfortunate position of being in the east bay area, make sure you get out before dark.

California = Turd Word state of Nothing an Welfare State of America.

  7. it took me years to figure out but now i know why they crucified Christ. read the above threads and you'll find out too.

  8. If California didn't have such high taxes, if domestic vehicles weren't so poorly made and if George W. Bush didn't suck, I guess you guys wouldn't have anything to complain about.

  9. Frankly, I am in California and trying to get out to Nevada! I originally came here from Florida first MISTAKE! The high taxes, illegals that sucked the budget bone dry and yet demand rights. The "me and I am entitled attitude" is horrid and everyone want to be a star!
My experiences in Nevada have been nothing but pleasant in all my 100+ trips. People are friendly, polite, caring and will lend a hand even if asked for directions.

Yes, every area has crime but here in the LA area just turn on your TV and all you read about is shooting after shooting. Just shooting everything up like Little Texas!

Doing price comparisons even in the supermarket Nevada is so much cheaper. I just hope that the great state of Nevada stays that way!

  10. if nevada is such a great place for businesses...why is our unemployment rate so high?

  11. ..because the housing market collapsed. Construction collapsed.
    And tourism in general collapsed.

  12. @ stevem

We just want business to set up their HQ's here or incorporate here for the tax revenue and business licenseing fees.
