Lands bill on way to president

WASHINGTON — Here’s a question: If Congress passes legislation you helped create but did not vote for, can you still claim credit as it becomes law?

Republican Rep. Dean Heller voted against a massive lands bill today as it cleared a final hurdle in the House.

The bill includes several items for Nevada, including legislation Heller sponsored.

The bill was approved 285-140, as 38 Republicans joined Democrats in its passage.

Democratic Reps. Shelley Berkley and Dina Titus voted in favor of the bill.

In Southern Nevada, the bill would set aside land for development around the Henderson airport and includes a provision Berkley championed to similarly transfer public land to the Nevada Cancer Institute.

President Barack Obama is expected to sign it into law.
