Ensign for D.C. mayor?

WASHINGTON — Republican Sen. John Ensign was on the front page of Politico this morning in a story headlined “D.C. Mayor Ensign?”

The story picks up on Ensign’s reach into the affairs in the District of Columbia, with his recent bills scaling back the City Council-approved gun control measure (and thwarting a long-sought voting representative in Congress for the district’s 500,000-plus residents in the process) and another to retain a private school voucher program.

The story concludes:

“For his part, Ensign says he has no designs on running D.C. — just on protecting those groups whose rights might otherwise be trampled.

“’People in the District are really happy that I’m standing up for them on school choice,’ he said. ‘And the ones who care about the Second Amendment love the fact that I’m sticking up for their rights as well.’”
