Political highlights from a chilly Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON -- Greetings, from the nation's capital, where yes, those were snow flurries on the Hill this morning.

This was not the kind of white stuff that created that miraculous snowman at the Fabulous Las Vegas sign last month, but a light dusting just to keep the many inauguration-goers on their cold toes.

Long lines are circling the congressional office buildings as visitors line up for their tickets to the big day. People seem in remarkably good spirits. It's actually not as cold as it looks.

Many good reads in the weekend papers, as usual.

The Sun's Jon Ralston flashes about how today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, MLK would be proud of both the president-elect as well as Nevada's own state Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford. He elegantly put in about 100 words or less.

Megan McCloskey writes in the Sun about labor's post-election legislative organizing campaign.

And if you're looking for local inaugural coverage, check out my blogging from Saturday about Barack Obama's historic train ride from Philadelphia to Washington or my story in Sunday's paper with Las Vegas teacher Rosa Mendoza's poetic reflections as she rode with him.

Today's story in the Sun offers a bit of the mood here in Washington as Tuesday nears.

That's it for now. Check back later for the latest Nevada political coverage in the Sun.
