Obama’s speech to discuss several Nevada-related issues

WASHINGTON - The Capitol halls have been bustling with visitors and police crews as President Barack Obama's joint address to Congress is about to begin.

Obama is expected to speak on several issues important to Nevada including his housing recovery plan, renewable energy development and the patriotic duty of young people to graduate from high school.

The president had still been reworking the speech as of late this morning.

He is expected to strike a tone that is both a sober assessment of the state of country's affairs as well as optimistic reminder of its ability to overcome challenges.

On housing, he expected to press the point that his recovery plan aims to halt foreclosures not reward speculators or those who overreached.

The Nevada delegation is expected to be in attendance for this first address by the president to the joint houses of Congress - but they are mostly flying solo.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid had no invited guests this year, nor did Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley.

Rep. Dina Titus, also a Democrat, invited Gerri Schroder, a city councilwoman from Henderson.

The House chamber is filling up and phones soon being turned off.
