Rep. Berkley named to Foreign Affairs Committee

WASHINGTON -- Democratic Rep. Shelley Berkley was named today to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, returning to the panel she had served on for much of her congressional career.

The Las Vegas lawmaker has held a keen interest in the international affairs, particularly as a strong backer of Israel. She has also been a hawk on Iran.

Berkley stepped off the committee in 2007 when she was appointed to Ways and Means, the powerful tax policy committee. Lawmakers on such A-committees often must relinquish their seats on other panels.

She will remain on Ways and Means, but will step down from Veterans Affairs where she has also served for most of her career in Congress.
