By ‘osmosis’ Reid chosen to lead

WASHINGTON — In the end, there were no challenges to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. No attempted coup by a certain New York senatorwho had once run for the White House. In the end, Reid became majority leader again today “by osmosis.”

Reid’s colleagues selected the Nevadan to again lead the Democratic Party in the U.S. Senate in a unanimous vote. The decision was made at this morning’s closed door meeting.

“Everyone agreed,” said Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, who said the vote happened “by acclamation.”

Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin offered a more technical version of the vote:

“It was osmosis. It happened,” he said. “I don’t know of a person in our caucus who wasn’t enthusiastic.”
